His case is the same in Savita Damodar Paranjape where you can see he can do much more and express a particular emotion in much better way but the director seems to have settled for the mediocrity maybe to match with the newcomer Trupti Toradmal. I admire Subodh Bhave as an actor but if a director is not able to utilize his acting capabilities an actor like him would be helpless.
But at few places she loses her control like performances killing the authenticity of the drama which may play a spoil sport in your movie watching experience. I liked how she takes the cinematic liberties making the optimum use of space and treating the film in a certain way. In Savita Damodar Paranjape she is quite impressive with the execution but she fails to hit the bull’s eye. I don’t know why but I have never enjoyed the work of Swapna Waghmare Joshi ever but she comes out as a promising director with the kind of response her earlier films has garnered. As mentioned earlier the film is brilliantly adapted from stage but how well does this film as a film satisfies you is the big question. One tragedy that takes place a day before their wedding is haunting them now and the title of the film Savita Damodar Paranjape has to do with their tragedy. They are happily married for eight years now but few events in their life turn their life upside down testing their every possible emotion. Savita Damodar Paranjape is a story of a couple Sharad and Kusum played by Subodh Bhave and the newcomer Trupti Toradmal respectively. She has also made sure the film serves its ultimate purpose of entertainment but not fully.
Swapna Waghmare Joshi deserves full marks for her execution but only the adaptation bit. Nowhere would you feel like you are watching the play or the movie is based on a play. I was not fortunate enough to watch the play when it released but the film has done absolute justice while adapting it on the screen.
The genre of this film is slightly confusing as the film is blend of many emotions right from romance to jealousy to fear to insecurity etc. Comedians like Dada Kondke, Ashok Saraf and Laxmikant Berde have contributed hugely towards Marathi cinema.Savita Damodar Paranjape is an adaptation of the play with the same name.
